I never did beat A(n)WL, it was just too slow for me, and I got really bored of it.
My favorite games to date are More Friends of Mineral Town, Magical Melody (to an extent), and Save the Homeland.
Anyway, about TToTT. I love it, but the freezing does get annoying. It used to have be manually reset (for me), but now when it freezes, I get an error message and an auto reset. Can't recall if there's been an update recently, but if there has, that totally fixes the problem, Natsume. Totally.
That's my only gripe, really. And the freshness system, it sucks if I'm saving something I get early in the game that I can't use (like Butter, Cheese, etc.) and it ends up going bad or I have to ship it before I can get any other ingredients to cook something.

It bothers me that it takes SO DARN LONG to get the mine. I'm in year 3 and I still don't have it!! I don't mind the request system, I just with things like upgrades/expansions weren't requests, that you could go to the shops and buy them when you need them. So annoying. -.-

Typical Marvelous way.
Make something too simple and flawed, then force people to use it in a silly way, while affecting everything else in a bad way.
Request isn't that bad, except the only things that can be called story related or worthy are the ones that end up being annoying and make the experience not as good.
Good concept, bad execution, again.
Yet thanks to those silly request (THE WEEDS, KEEP 'EM COMING), I end up exploring the mountain everyday instead of rushing days like a mad man.
(Inb4: certain people only read the parts where I say how the system is bad.)

yeah down with the system argh
No but really I like the requests too in that aspect, because they make me do things I'd otherwise skip over. I usually never explore/forage, and the fact that the spawning locations of the items are random is a little more fun than just going to the same spot every day to get the same item.
That and I love/hate how expansions are part of the request, because you have to wait a whole season before you can do your next expansion. And, if it's a season where only tunnel expansion is offered, then you have to wait another season. That's absolute ballllllls. But I like how for the first 2-3 years of the game, almost every season has something new and unlockable, so that keeps me going on it for a while.
Oh, and lack of organization. I just remembered that's something I really hate in this game. No fridge, shelves, and everything is clumped up in your bag. That's really annoying if you're a neat-freak borderline-OCD maniac like me.

The items locations aren't random, but the items that appear in the locations are picked at random from a poll of items.
After a while you notice that certain items always tend to appear on the same place (like ore rocks). The thing is, there's LOTS of places that can spawn items.

I honestly preferred the mountain over staying in the villages. Then again, in every HM game, I always enjoy fishing all day. in HM64 and AWL I would get everything done early, fish for the rest of the day then head to the bar at night.

My biggest gripe is, in all honesty, the lack of differentiated storage areas. I am a neat freak. I don't want my food going off so quickly or taking up space in my cart, I want a fridge for food and a shelf for other foraged items and maybe even a shed for lumber/stone/ores. Stuff like that.
Otherwise, while I can recognise the problems others have pointed out, I've not been playing long enough (just Autumn of my first year - we haven't had it long here in Europe :P) for them to really impact/irritate me yet. I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel daunted and disappointed by the cost of building things, though.

Well things i don't like about TOTT is that when things go of and you carnt cook much and for the festivals, the lack of storage places, how you have to wait for the carpenter so you can sort out the farm and tunnel the flower system dose my nut in, and i love to customize. and inside of the house looks boring you carnt customize it.
hopefully if there is a next harvest moon it can be fully customizable you know characters features clothes and the whole farm
other than that i love TOTT
