The Amish over here do a lot of planting without machines, they really know how to plant stuff and getting the soil quality of land to increase.

My dad has been growing plants not as a business but just to eat, relax, and whatnot. So far it's been pretty fun. And healthy too! It's always fun to take nearly useless dirt and turn it into very rich dirt.
My mom's favorite subject for her students is how to make compost and use it as fertilizer. The soil in my house is pretty fertile so our main problem is to keep them weeds off.

Yo, lardher, you need to have a higher post count if you want to send links and advertise for another site. That and I have no idea was zuCom is.

Yeah. It can be.
But, most of the "farmers" around here, are the ones who grow grains/canola/etc for food sold around the country. So yeah, job.

Even the Mennonites around here have machines! Or such. XDD

... This totally goes back to "what exactly is a farmer". D:

My neighbour used to grow Tomatoes before he retired, now I think he's in a nursing home. My aunt/godmother grows lots of her own herbs and spices (sometimes vegetables) though...

My grandparents are farmers, most of the land on this road is either owned by them or farmed by them or by a farmer they know. In fact I can look out my window and see several of their fields, all with either soy beans or corn.
