If you follow someone else's opinions when it comes to something so... minimal as that, you are losing personality.
One of the bad things about newer gamers, which you see a lot in HM related sites. If 10 play the game first, the next 10000 players will just follow the steps of those first 10 players, instead of following their own path. Same with those that buy those guides.

That's what I'm doing with RF3. In Japanese version I already knew who I wanted to marry, but due to the dub, which I don't like that much still, I had to change to another girl and I didn't knew who, so I'm just raising everyone's friendship and doing all the related stuff first. Which in RF games is something pretty easy most of the time.
And I think that in RF3 the characters are even more interesting than before. Even if they look boring at first, later they get more and more interesting, or cute. Well, Shara still looks boring to me though.
