"Harvest King" Inspiration?
So, I was just at Target, and I bought my fiance a "Mardi Gras King Cake".
I don't really care either way about Mardi Gras or the like. He just likes cinnamon rolls.
It came with a little cardboard piece of paper, and on it, it says:
"The main part of the celebration was the baking of a King Cake to honor the three Kings. The cakes were made circular to portray the circular route used by the Kings to get to the Christ Child and confuse King Herod, who was trying to follow the wise men so he could kill the Christ Child. In these early King Cakes, a bean, a pea, or a coin was hidden inside the cake. The person who got the hidden piece was declared King for the day, or was said to have good luck in the coming year."
I bet this is where the inspiration for the Harvest Festival's cake came from. I'm surprised I never learned of this until now, but I thought I'd just share what I found.

I eat more than one every Xmas season since forever. XDDDD
In my country is now prohibited to have the bean or "prizes" on it, since people decided not to chew and choke with the bean or prize.
I actually posted a pic of it once in the hideout, though I didn't know that the name was so well translated. XD
Oh, my cat loves this cake as well, to the point that if you don't take enough attention, she will steal a good chunk of it. (she loves most cakes anyway, but she's totally crazy for this one. XD)
Since in some places they put a prize and a bean inside it, we used to say that who gets the bean has to pay another cake. XD
The prizes are(were) usually small figures like one of the 3 kings or the virgin Mary.

Yeah. This one came with baby Jesus.
I stuck it inside the cake somewhere for Danny to eventually find, haha.

Thanks to lawsuits, America avoids putting items into cakes if they aren't edible.

Same happened here, sort of (we don't really have that many lawsuits, just complains I think. XD).
Now I don't remember if we can still have them in the cake as long as they are "big", or if we don't have them at all. Though this year cakes came all from the same place and none had anything in it.
In my country we have a variation, which translating the name would be the "Queen Cake".
It's basically the same cake, but without the fruits, only the nuts.

I have heard of people putting 'prizes' in cakes and such, but I never really looked to much into it haha. ^^
