In this game, youíve got a choice of two mines you can dig in. The most accessible mine is the Spring Mine, which is located right next to the goddess pond, and you can access it year round. The other mine is located in the middle of the lake on Mothers Hill, and you can only get to it during the winter when the lake freezes over.
Each mine has 255 floors. The only tools you need are your hammer and hoe (and itís smart to bring ONLY these two with you, because if you find some secret tools, you need space in your rucksack). Use the hammer to break the rocks (which often yield ore after being smashed) and use the hoe to dig. To progress downward, you need to use your hoe. Just go around using it on the dirt, and youíll eventually uncover a staircase leading to the next floor. When looking for the next staircase to go down, dig nearby the staircase you came from.
Now, if youíre interested in digging all the way to the bottom, you canít just dig your way down without a problem, youíll wear out too fast. Whenever you get to a new level in the mine, save the game. Now just smash rocks and dig until you find the staircase to the next level–but instead of going down, memorize where the staircase is, and reload the game you saved when you entered the level you are on. Then just go to the stop where you found the staircase before–and voila, you didnít waste a bunch of energy smashing and digging. Now before going down to the next level, save your game again in the second slot, because occasionally youíll end up in a room that has no staircase to the next level. So by saving before you enter the next room, if you end up in a dead-end room, you can reload your game before you entered, and youíll end up with a new room. Now, right when you enter the new room–save in the first slot, and repeat this whole process.
The Spring mine is where you’ll find all the ores you need for upgrading things. The copper, silver, gold, and mystrile ores are used for upgrading tools, and the orichalc and adamantite are used for makers and accessories.
